Mother Nature’s Lesson Plan
March 29, 2024
For the first time in my adult life, my home has a yard. After living in cities for almost 20 years, this is an incredibly exciting and novel experience for me. Birds chirping. Bunnies bouncing. Stars shining in the night sky. It’s a total thrill.
But as we’ve settled into this new reality, I will admit that the charm of mother nature is starting to diminish. In the last month, we’ve discovered the nightmare of plants with burrs (aka the Velcro of plants) and the effects of them on a curly haired goldendoodle (a complete hot mess). We’ve lived through a tornado warning, (my husband’s first), where we scrambled to the basement to just sit there and panic for an hour. Of course the true cherry on top was the 24 hours it went from 60 degree sunny weather, to rain, to hail, and snow, just cause why not.
The volatility of nature is chaotic, but the lessons you learn navigating it, are truly invaluable.
Funny enough, the same could be said of operations.
The unpredictability of operations can be extreme, but the growth in traversing the challenges are life changing.
Instead of shying away from the things out of our control, we need to learn how to ebb and flow within it. Not only does this strengthen our resolve to find a way through any hurdle, but it opens up new qualities within ourselves that we didn’t know existed.
With that, I tip my hat to Mother Nature. Thanks for keeping me on my toes.
